LPA met with licensee/director, Marlene Coe, and explained the purpose of the visit. Present during visit included 2 teaching staff and 11 preschool children. During LPA's visit, preschool program is currently operating a summer program through August 2, 2024. Regular preschool program operations will resume August 21, 2024. Preschool program is currently licensed to operate in Studio Classroom #1 and Studio Classroom #2 with a total capacity of 30 preschool children. Licensee requested to increase capacity to 54 preschool children (2 years to entry into first grade) with a room addition of Studio Classroom #3. Capacity increase application was submitted to department June 28, 2024. As of this date, fire clearance has not been obtained. LPA inspected and measured Studio Classroom #3. Studio Classroom #3 was measured for 639.41 sq. ft. allowing for a capacity of 18 children. LPA observed classroom to be clean, with appropriate furniture and equipment. There is a variety of toys and materials that are new and in good condition. There are carpets in the room that are free of stains. LPA observed electrical outlets in classroom to be made inaccessible with child safety covers. Classroom is equipped with a fully charged fire extinguisher and dual smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. LPA observed carbon monoxide detector to be working during visit. LPA observed poisons, cleaning solutions and chemicals to be stored behind child safety locked cabinets in the classroom. There is an additional children's restroom in the classroom with two toilets. There are also two additional sinks in the classroom that children have access to. Sinks accessible to children do not provide water that is warmer than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. (Continue Report on Page 2...) With the two additional, accessible toilets (6 total) and two additional, accessible sinks (6 total) in the classroom, total allowable capacity for toilets and sinks is 90 children. LPA observed additional toilets and sinks in classroom to be in working condition. Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1- CCP). LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP. LPA referred licensee to the Department website for lead: Lead Toxicity Prevention and Water Testing Information. During visit, LPA obtained from licensee, updated Application for Child Care License (LIC200A), updated Designation of Facility Responsibility (LIC308), sample of most current admission agreement, most current Parent Handbook, updated Personnel Policies for staff and outdoor waiver request. LPA will approve for use of Studio Classroom #3 with addition of 18 preschool children, for a total licensed capacity of 48 preschool children when following is complete: -Fire clearance (scheduled for 7/31). -Water lead testing results are remediated (retesting conducted 7/16). -Installation of sound alarm on exit doors in classroom. No deficiencies were issued during LPA's visit. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with licensee, Marlene Coe.
