LPA met with Director, Ruth Hickingbottom. Also Present was Early Childhood Education Specialist, Tamikio Simpson. LPA toured the facility, and a census was taken. The purpose of today's inspection was regarding an Unusual Incident that was reported to the Fresno Childcare Regional Office on 2/21/25 by the facility. The incident reported was pertaining to a child breaking a window. The incident occurred while a staff member had taken the child outside to decompress while the classroom napped. While the staff member was assisting the child with getting a bike from the play yard area, the child was seen attempting to climb the gate and the staff immediately redirected the child. The child became irate and grabbed a pretend traffic sign from the bike track area and swung it against the classroom’s window, which caused the window to break. The facility staff didn't observe any injuries to the child and immediately contacted the child's parent. The facility immediately cleaned up the area and repaired the broken window in a timely manner. During today’s visit LPA Herrera conducted classroom observations, staff interviews and review of records pertinent to the incident. LPA observed that the child involved in the incident continues to attend the facility. The facility practices proper supervision of children inside and outside the classroom. The facility has implemented a modified schedule with the child to reduce the child's behavior. The facility continues to consult with Resource & Referral agencies to assist the child. Staff members continue to receive trainings on how to mitigate challenging behaviors in the classroom. Furthermore, staff are trained to redirect children and provide children with strategies to decompress such as coloring, book reading and stepping outside to have the child calm down with proper supervision. Additionally, the facility provided the child's parent with resources to address the child's needs and the child has been enrolled in services. Although the incident occurred, staff took appropriate measures to address the incident, following appropriate policies, regulations, and reporting requirements. Teacher/child ratios are maintained, and adequate supervision is being provided during this visit. To be continued on 809-C.
